FULL PLATE (8.5 x 6.5 inches) FIELD CAMERA OUTFIT, English last quarter of 19th century, name plaque to front reads'LONDON STEREOSCOPIC CO, 106 & 108 REGENTS ST W, & 54 CHEAPSIDE, E. Lens also signed'LONDON STEREOSCOPIC CO'Description The camera is constructed from French polished mahogany with lacquered brass fittings and is of typical early field camera construction. The front folds down and the lens board pulls forward and is clipped into the brass tracks with wheels at the top of the lens panel to secure it in place.

The base can be racked out to double the length of the camera. The back can also be slid forward. The camera back can be rotated for landscape or portrait Accessories; Dark slides The outfit comes with 3 double dark slides in French polished mahogany with brass bindings and fittings.

The lens The lens is the original and is signed in script'London Stereoscopic Co, Black Band Reg No88031, 9x7, Rapid Redtilinear, 21119'. The lens comes with its original lens cap and in a fabric bag with drawer string. The case The case is original to the camera with a large guilt trade label to the inside of the lid. The outside of the case has numerous hotel labels applied from a grand tour of Europe.

Condition: Cosmetically the camer is very good with a nice bright finish to the French polished mahogany. The brass retains much of the original lacquered finish. The bellows are good and still supple.

There is a small piece of wood missing from the back of the camera next to the focussing screen (see image) Mechanically the camera operated very well with no areas of concern.
